Soothe Your Shoulders | mindful movement

Soma Yoga | Trauma Informed Yoga

4 SESSION SERIES

The result of trauma and chronic anxiety can show up in our bodies through restricted and protective muscle patterns. This often happens in our shoulders and heart space as we curl inward as a means of providing safety, making ourselves smaller, or possibly due to feeling defeated and hopeless.

With mindful movement and calming breath work, we’ll explore our shoulders and the areas that surround them such as the jaw, neck, chest, and upper back.

Session 1: Soften

Jaw, neck, chest, + shoulders.

Affirmation: My body softens at it’s own pace. // I will soften at my own pace.

Session 2: Unfurl

Shoulders, spine, chest, 3 part breath.

Affirmation: I am creating space to release and receive.

Session 3: Mobility

Front of neck, chest, shoulders.

Contemplation: “To be soft is to be powerful.”

-Rupi Kuar

Session 4: Open

Shoulders, chest, hips.
